This article provides an example of a 7.6 hr shift which will accrue RDO for any extra time worked at the end of their expected shift finish time.
The 38-hour (7.6hr x 5) threshold is commonly used for full-time employees in Australia, but the applicable threshold may vary depending on the employee’s award or agreement, adjust hour settings as required for employees.
Notes:
- Important: RDO Settings will need to enabled within System Settings - General for RDO Settings to be available in Daily Rules.
- Daily Rules need to be allocated to a Schedule to be assigned to Employees.
Daily Rule Example Summary:
- 9am to 5pm shift, with grace periods of up-to 5 minutes late/early finish.
- 24-minute auto break deduction after 5.5 Hours.
- 15-minute rounding on clocking times.
- Time before 9am will not be included in their shift total hours.
- RDO Earnt after 7.6hrs.
To Create a RDO Shift Rule, follow these steps:
- Click Shift Setup.
- Click Daily Rules.
- Click Add (in top right).
Shift Times Tab
- Name the Daily Rule - example '09:00 - 17:00 (7.6 Daily RDO)'.
- Tick Expected?
- Scroll to Fixed Time.
- Start Time = 09:00.
- Start Time Grace Period = 5 (can clock in 5 minutes late, shift time will begin from 9am).
- Finish Time = 17:00.
- Finish Time - Grace Period = 5 (can clock out 5 minutes early, shift time will end 5pm).
Break Times Tab
- Click the Break Times Tab.
- Tick Lunch Break as Flexible.
- Time Allowed = 24.
- Min Hours Before Break Allowed = 05:30.
Rounding Tab
- Select the Rounding Tab.
- Start Time - select rounding direction for clocking time (example Mid-Point Hours).
- Select hourly increment to round to = 15 Minutes.
- Finish Time - select rounding direction for clocking time (example Mid-Point Hours).
- Select hourly increment to round to = 15 Minutes.
Time Bands Tab
- Select the Time Bands Tab.
- Keep the Time Band settings on their default Base pay code only.
- Optional: set From Time = 09:00 to exclude time before 09:00 from shift totals.
ORD pay code types are required to accrue RDO Earnt, hours allocated to OT pay codes types will not accrue RDO.
- Scroll down, set Standard Leave Hours = 07:36 (7.6).
RDO Settings Tab
- Select the RDO Settings Tab.
- Expected Standard Hours = 07:36.
- Expected RDO Earnt = 00:00 (All time after 7.6 hours to be RDO Earnt.)

Save RDO Settings.
- Optional - Location and Department tabs will filter which users can view/edit the rule.
Time Sheet Example
Now once the employee that is assigned to this daily rule exceeds 7.6 hours within their shift, RDO Earnt hours will accrue on timesheets and you will be able to see their RDO Balance.
