This article provides an example of a daily rule configured for a Night Shift or anyone who works past 11:59pm.
In this rule, the shift is 7 pm to 3 am fixed shift, with a 6-minute grace period, a 30-minute automatically deducted break after 5.5 Hours worked, Overtime after 8 hours (7.6 Base + 0.4 RDO/TOIL Accrued)
Notes:
- If an Employee works past 11:59 pm they MUST be on a Night Shift rule
- The Day Change Time (under the Shift Times tab) must be set to a time the employee won't work through. eg. If the shift is 7 pm-3 am, set the Day change time to 5 pm.
- Is Night Shift? must be ticked.
- The Rule will NOT save automatically. You MUST click SAVE after setting up Daily Rule.
To create a night shift rule, follow these steps:
- Go to Shift Setup > Daily Rules > Add (in top right)
- Name the Rule
- Tick Is Night Shift? (& Expected if required)
- Select the day you want the night shift to apply:
Start Date (The day they clock in) or Finish Date (the day they clock out). - Select the Rule Type (Flexible, Fixed or Attendance) & Fill out the fields with the necessary information specified by the Rule Type you chose.
- Click the Break Times tab
- Fill out the break requirements (if you only have one break, use the lunch break field)
- Click the Rounding tab
- Set up any required rounding for the clock-in and clock-out times. (e.g. 7:13 pm rounds 7:15 pm)
- Click the Time Bands Tab
- Under the By Hours Worked (HH:MM) field, assign Pay Codes based on the total number of hours worked, with values entered according to the award requirements. Specify the number of hours for Base hourly, Overtime 1 (if required), and Overtime 2 (if required), and the system will calculate the hours accordingly - The same thing applies if calculating OT by the time of day, except the values will be the Time of Day instead of the amount of Hours Worked
- Click the RDO Settings Tab
- Enter the Expected standard hours the employee will work
- Enter the Expected amount of RDO they should receive
- Tick cap Hours for RDO Earnt
- The Location and Department tabs filter which departments and locations can view the rule.
- Once you have completed the setup of the Night Shift, Click Save (Don't leave the page before it shows as Saved
